Flash photography

So after years of shooting B&W and flashless I bought myself a SB900 flash for my D700. Normally I work with Hedler continuous light and/or exisiting light. Time to try something different. Starting with some workshops at Fotogram in Amsterdam. Maybe they can give me some great food for thought and techniques.

A short biographee

The year is 1977. Albert gets hold of his first camera (an old Voigtlander Vito II) and makes his first shots at the Emmen Zoo. This is where it all begins. In the 80's and 90's Albert is a very enthusiastic amateur photographer shooting almost everything coming his way.

From 1985-2000 Albert focuses on his work in the music industry, recording Dutch popular artists and playing in bands as a bass player.

From 2000 onwards Albert starts traveling more and builds up the skills to make quick compositions. Although color photography is more popular than ever, Albert still loves to shoot in black and white. In the meantime Albert works in the Online Marketing industry

Besides his Nikon Albert buys a LOMO LC-A camera. He loves the oversaturated pictures the Russian camera makes. Also, the lens is very light sensitive which makes it a great companion both for day and night. Besides a very strange but funny Russian Lomo exhibition in 2002 in Amsterdam the Lomo adventure demands lots of space to store the negatives it produces. But to this day, the LC-A remains in his bag waiting to capture the right moment.

In 2005 Albert decides to get to grips with portrait photography. A new adventure with lots to learn. Lighting and directing models turns out to be more difficult than he thought it would be. Nevertheless he succeeds in making a series of pictures of women who are distant, aloof, unreachable and fragile.

Albert buys a Cambo 5x4 Technical Camera at the end of 2006. Finally he can use the beautiful and inspiring Polaroid 55 positive/negative film. Sadly Polaroid stopped making instant film in 2008.
