First promotional picture I shot for Electro/Pop artist NY Fan. On a cloudy day we did this shoot. I had to experiment with Daylight and flash. Mostly Grey? The series was shot in mostly color.

Afgelopen dinsdag (5 januari 2011) overleed mijn lieve moeder op 78 jarige leeftijd. Een goed moment om haar weer even bovenaan de lijst te zetten.

Zakelijke portretten

En soms komt er een zakelijke klant die een goede foto wil. Geen portretten met Hollands licht, maar gewoon een pragmatische aanpak voor een bruikbare foto. Trouwens een keertje geen ingewikkelde lampen, maar ouderwets daglicht.

Lights

Picture taken with a 30 second shutter and four seperate flashes. At home.

We are blind

Cannes wordt jaarlijks gevisiteerd door onder andere de Nederlandse reclame- muziek- en filmindustrie, waar men elkaar maar al te graag buiten het beursgebouw ontmoet in de luxe veelsterren hotels voor werklunches en parties. Zoals altijd in de wilde weg klikkend met mijn camera doemt het beeld op van een groep natives getooid met zonnebrillen en bontjassen. In een reflex neem ik de foto. Een seconde later is het onderwerp voorbij gelopen. Pas thuis bij het selecteren van de foto's zie ik de blinde-geleide-stok van de man rechts van het midden. De zesde zonnebril in de foto is geen luxe artikel, maar noodzaak. Maar misschien vergis ik me en zijn de dames ook blind.

Can I have some peace and quiet, please?

Because the title of my blog is, Mostly Grey, doesn't mean I don't like colours. The thing is, I actually love colour photographs, but I always seem to turn them into black and white. Not this one though

Flash photography

So after years of shooting B&W and flashless I bought myself a SB900 flash for my D700. Normally I work with Hedler continuous light and/or exisiting light. Time to try something different. Starting with some workshops at Fotogram in Amsterdam. Maybe they can give me some great food for thought and techniques.
